CALGARY - Forty-eight hours after playing in his first all-star game, Johnny Gaudreau was back in Calgary and making the type of impact that earned the Flames rookie an invite to the NHLs gala weekend.Gaudreau scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season on Tuesday as the Flames rallied in the third period to beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-1.Just being around the guys that were in that locker-room this weekend, its exciting for me to be a part of that, said the 21-year-old Gaudreau. Now Im excited for the second half of the season.Gaudreau moves into a tie with sophomore Sean Monahan for the team lead in goals.Im excited to help the team offensively. Playing with (Jiri Hudler), Im going to get scoring chances and Im bound to score some goals here and there, said Gaudreau. That pass he made in the third, thats just an empty-net tap-in. Ill take those.Gaudreau is one back of the lead for goals by a rookie, which is shared by Ottawas Mike Hoffman and Nashvilles Filip Forsberg.Joe Colborne and Josh Jooris also scored to help Calgary win for the fifth time in six games.Chris Stewart had the lone goal for Buffalo (14-31-3), which extended its team-record losing streak to 12 games.Jooris, with the eventual winner, gave the Flames a 2-1 lead at 9:05 of the third period Colbornes shot deflected off Buffalo defenceman Mike Weber to Jooris at the side of the net and he quickly fired in his 10th goal. Its all about being aggressive around the net. Josh is a good skater, hes hard-nosed player, said Calgary coach Bob Hartley. Look at his goal. There was a loose puck and there were many sticks but he was the one that found that puck.Jooris now has four game-winning goals, best on the Flames.Especially down the stretch, youre going to be seeing a lot more dirty goals, said Jooris. Weve focused on that the past couple of weeks and thats a big part of our game that we need to improve on.After Colborne made it 3-1, jamming in a rebound at 14:06, Gaudreau wrapped up the third period onslaught at 17:28 on a nifty feed from Hudler. Calgary outshot Buffalo 15-2 in the third period.I thought we did play well, said Buffalo coach Ted Nolan. But once they turned it up a notch, we couldnt keep up with them in the third period. The win moves Calgary, holders of the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, three points up on the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. The Sabres have lost 12 consecutive games, all in regulation. Thats a franchise record and the longest streak in the NHL since the Pittsburgh Penguins lost 13 in a row in regulation in 2003-04.Its frustrating. We played 40 minutes of good hockey and came out in the third and kind of just crumbled, said Stewart. We did have our chances and we just have to bear down. When they got their chances they put them in. That was the difference. The last regulation win by Buffalo came against the Flames way back on Dec. 11, a 4-3 win in which Calgary outshot the Sabres 45-19.Perfect road game. Good 40 minutes for us but it shows our fragility there going into the third, losing it mentally, sitting back waiting for something bad to happen instead of initiating and trying to force things, said Buffalo captain Brian Gionta. With three minutes left in the second period, Stewart had a great chance at the side of the Flames net to break a 1-1 tie only to be robbed by Jonas Hiller, who sprawled and kicked out his pad.Thats the difference, Hiller making those big saves. Thats the importance of goaltending, said Nolan. Stewart had what I thought was an empty-net goal and all of a sudden the pad comes over and makes the save.Hiller finished with 18 saves in his first start in six games. After giving up six goals in a loss to Florida in Calgarys last home game, he gave way to rookie call-up Joni Ortio, who started all five games on a five-game road trip in which the Flames went 4-1-0.Enroth stopped 27 shots in the losing effort.Playing its first game in nine days, Buffalo didnt have anything going early, taking nine minutes to register its first shot. However, after an offensive zone hooking penalty by Colborne, the Sabres 30th ranked power play went to work with Stewart scoring on a deflection after just 13 seconds. The lead was short lived as the Flames took advantage of their first power play of the evening with Gaudreaus goal at 13:40.It was the first power-play goal in six games for Calgary, which entered the night on a 4-for-57 tailspin over the previous 17 games to drop the Flames from eighth in the league to 23rd.We need to keep working at it. We feel we have the right people, its just matter of getting together, getting on the same page, getting a few goals, said Hartley. Penalty killing, power plays, it comes by waves and down the stretch, we need big specialty teams, its going to be crucial for us.Notes: The NHL record for consecutive regulation losses is 17, a mark shared by San Jose (1992-93) and Washington (1974-75)... Buffalo rookie D Nikita Zadarov did not play. Hes been suspended by the team for missing practice on Monday... Injured Flames LW Curtis Glencross (lower body) is expected to return to practice on Wednesday. He has missed four games... Calgary scratched all three players recalled from Adirondack (AHL) on Monday - Tyler Wotherspoon, Sven Baertschi and 25-year-old David Wolf, who has yet to play an NHL game. Tarvarius Moore 49ers Jersey .7 million, one-year contract, a raise of $2.2 million. Wieters had asked for $8.75 million and the Orioles had offered $6. Cassius Marsh 49ers Jersey . Detroits powerful offence made that unnecessary. Scherzer allowed two hits and struck out seven, and the Tigers backed their star right-hander with three early homers in an 8-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. http://www.thesf49ersshoponline.com/Youth-Weston-Richburg-49ers-Jersey/ . 22 because of a bruised foot and have added forward Sean Collins to the roster on emergency recall from Springfield of the AHL. Mike McGlinchey Jersey . Peter Dawson took his long before he started the job. "I was playing an American one year at Oxford Golf Club, and he introduced me to this travelling mulligan," Dawson said. Fred Warner 49ers Jersey . Philippe Desrosiers stopped 42 shots through overtime and three more in the shootout to pick up his third shutout of the season for Rimouski (31-15-7). Zachary Fucale made 28 saves for Halifax (34-17-3) in the loss.DETROIT -- Max Scherzer figured he had squandered another lead when Alex Gordons fifth-inning drive sailed down the line in right field. "When that came off the bat, I was sure that thing was gone, and I was stunned when I turned around and realized it had gone foul," Scherzer said. After that reprieve, Scherzer walked Gordon and retired the next two batters to escape a bases-loaded jam, and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat Kansas City 4-2 on Tuesday night to pull within percentage points of the Royals atop the AL Central. Rajai Davis and J.D. Martinez homered for the Tigers, who can sweep the three-game series with a win Wednesday night. Scherzer (16-5) allowed a run and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings. Kansas City was down 3-1 in the fifth when Gordons deep fly to right went just foul with two on. Gordon walked to load the bases with one out, but Salvador Perez lined out and Eric Hosmer struck out. Joe Nathan worked out of another jam in the ninth to earn his 30th save in 36 chances. He allowed two infield singles to start the inning before closing out the game with two strikeouts sandwiched around a picked-off runner. Pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson was the man who was picked off second. "The hardest part about that play was not getting too fired up and throwing the ball away," Nathan said. "We so clearly had him that the only way it was going to get messed up was if I didnt get the ball to (second baseman Ian Kinsler). As it turned out, I didnt even need to make a great throw, but I made a pretty good one anyway." Kansas Citys Jason Vargas (11-8) allowed four runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out six and walked three. Scherzer had allowed 14 earned runs over his previous four starts -- not terrible, but below his standards as the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner. Hes had a hard time protecting leads lately. On Tuesday, the Tigers led 3-0 in the fifth when Omar Infante hit an RBI single for the Royals -- but Scherzer avoided the big inning. Martinez opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first, and Davis two-run homer in the second made it 3-0. Martinezs 20th homer of the season gave Detroit a 4-1 lead in the fifth. HEAD TO HEAD The Tigers are trying for their fourth straight AL Central title, and the hallmark of this run has been their ability to beat their closest competitors in the division head to head.dddddddddddd. Last year, Detroit went 15-4 against Cleveland and finished one game ahead of the Indians. The Tigers are 11-4 against the Royals this year, and the race is now in a virtual tie. Detroit has one more win and one more loss than Kansas City -- and the Royals still have to finish a suspended game in which they trail Cleveland 4-2 in the 10th. "You have to be conscious of the standings at this time of the year, but being tied for first doesnt mean a thing when we step on the field (Wednesday)," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. TOO MANY MISTAKES The normally sure-handed Royals made two errors Tuesday after making two in the series opener. Then there was Dysons mistake in the ninth, which eliminated a crucial baserunner. The Royals had men on first and second for the dangerous Gordon, but he struck out. Then Dyson was picked off second. Manager Ned Yost said he was hoping Dyson and fellow pinch-runner Terrance Gore could pull off a double steal. "Dysons the lead runner, Dysons going to find a spot when he can get a jump and go," Yost said. "Gores the tail runner. Hes going to be right behind him." The Tigers arent known for their impressive fielding, but Kinsler made a crucial diving stop to his left on Josh Willinghams grounder in the eighth. The Royals ended up scoring a run that inning, but that was it. TRAINERS ROOM Royals: Yost said he would not have used star closer Greg Holland on Tuesday, but he is close to returning from a triceps injury. ... RHP Liam Hendriks (1-1) is listed as Thursday nights starter against Boston -- LHP Danny Duffy is missing that turn in the rotation because of a sore shoulder. Tigers: Detroit expects RHP Joakim Soria (left oblique strain) to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday. UP NEXT Kansas Citys James Shields (13-7) faces Detroits Rick Porcello (15-10) on Wednesday, although the possibility of rain puts that game in some doubt. Shields is coming off a 1-0 win over the Yankees in New York on Friday.
